Why Adulting Is Not What You Expect It To Be

How many of us have grown up thinking how awesome our adult selves were going to be? I certainly did. Being a kid meant having restrictions, being told what to do and having no freedom whatsoever. But guess what? I miss most of the things from my childhood that I couldn't wait but get rid of. Because too many options is a thing and I say it's valid. Here are a few reasons why adulting sucks:

1. Too many options - for literally everything

Okay, so here's the thing. When you were a kid, you were told things like hey honey, you're going to this school or why don't you join an art class to spend all of that built up energy? You had a direction to go in life and if you were onboard the idea, things were simpler. But as an adult, there are a vast array of choices you can make. What do you want to cook for breakfast, lunch and dinner? Do you want to order food or go out and hang out with friends?

Recently, I was looking at majors for my post graduation and I was sucked into it. There were majors that would look good on my resume, majors that would boost my current career and majors that I was honestly interested in (creative writing, I'm looking at ya). Honestly, I don't know what to pick yet and it might be possible that I never will. Everything sounded amazing (that's the nerd in me talking).

So yeah, I'm trying to say, there are decisions to be made and not fun decisions at that!

2. You gotta pay the bills

Fun Aspect of Adulting: Money

Responsibilities: Paying bills

It is liberating to be an independent woman who handles her expenses solely but that does not mean I do not dread paying bills. Every month a huge chunk of my salary goes to rent, food expenses and other essentials. (To those of you who know I shop a lot and are rolling your eyes, don't tell)

3. Free time is a myth

If you're hoping to get a little free time once you're an adult, that's hardly going to happen. This again goes back to responsibilities. There is just so much to do. You have your job, education, dogs to care for. Getting time to do something you love is mostly a result of sacrificing some of your sleep.

4. You've actually gotta remember stuff

You are your own master so you need to remember everything. Keeping tab of all of your appointments, to-do lists and deadlines is tough. I need an app to do that but before that I had another app called "my mom" and she was amazing at it.

5. You will always regret the choices you didn't make

Remember when I said we have too many choices? Eventually, you have to make a few and discard the rest. There will be days you will regret not risking more, not doing enough and those days will overwhelm you because now you probably have a family to support.

There you are, 5 reasons why adulting sucks and is the hardest to deal with! But don't worry, we're all in this together. We will live this miserable life and make the best out of it.
